The geek world is abuzz today after news that Disney has purchased Marvel Entertainment, Inc., meaning that Spider-Man, Thor, Iron Man and many, many more are now more or less owned by Disney.  In a sense.

The news is big but don’t expect to see Spider-Man having a cross-over with Wall-E anytime soon (though that might be kind of cool…).  Disney has said that it doesn’t plan on tinkering with current movies or comics.  What you’ll most likely see is more Marvel merchandising, more Marvel on Disney channels and, in the future, Marvel movies distributed by Disney.  Also, new Marvel characters will be produced by the house built by Mickey.  But still, I doubt they’ll dumb it down.

Marvel has been turning on the hits for years now, most notably Spider-Man.  Perhaps one of the most exciting ideas about this purchase is that Pixar has said it would like to create a few movies based on Marvel characters.  Personally, I think that would be a genius idea.

I know a lot of fans are saying that Marvel sold out, that they are now owned by the man.  I don’t think that’s true.  Marvel has been such a colossal studio for awhile.  If anything, this will help them get bigger movies.  At the same, if it ain’t broke, why try and fix it?  Or even change it at all?
