Shaq Vs Michael Phelps in the Pool

Shaq’s new reality show pits the basketball superman against other sports greats in what will easily prove to be a fun watch. Michael Phelps, the pot smoking, smoking fast, Olympic superstar, will be the Shaq’s first opponent, but not on the basketball court, in the pool.

Although “Shaq Vs.” surely is a “Wouldn’t miss it for the world reality romp,” it’s not hard for me to prognosticate a winner, that is IF it ends up being a straight-up swim-off.

Even suspended in water, Shaq, at 300 pounds and over 7 feet tall, would be a brick and in a contest with the swimming swan Phelps, it would be a blood bath, however, if some shenanigans are implemented to hinder Phelps, like, Phelps must swim with 3 supermodels on his back to make up for the weight difference, then anything is possible.

LA Short Film Festival Saturday July 25 2009

I have covered many short film festivals, from CineVegas to Sundance, and I must say that it was a true pleasure to attend last night’s offering from the LA Short Film Festival!  Held this year at the Laemmle Sunset 5 Theaters in Hollywood, I found the setting to be much more intimate in contrast to past events held at bigger venues.

This year’s mini-masterpieces consisted of a wide variety of themes, from a “jilted lover’s extreme revenge”, to a “geek’s transformational wristwatch.”

Here is a list of last night’s shorts in no particular order:

Never Before Released John Lennon Lyrics Uncovered

a father and his son

a father and his son

Julian Lennon, son of ledged, John Lennon, has released lyrics written by his dad, the lyrics have never been worked into a song.

“Tell Her Now”

“Little girl I’ve come to stay

“And this time I just have to say

“I love you

“If she turns you down and you’re rejected

“Try again the best you can

“Call to see her when you’re least expected

“Tell her now she’ll understand.”

Julian indicated he is currently working on music to accompany the lyrics, in honor of his dad. Who better to compose music to the late, iconic Beatle’s lyrics than his own son?

The lyrics are on display at a Beatles exhibition in Liverpool, White Feather: The Spirit of Lennon.

Family Comes Forward Michael Jackson Secret Stay

A family residing in Leeburg, Va, say they rented their home to Michael Jackson and his entourage for 9 days.genthumb

In 2004 Jackson’s people contacted the family asking if they were interested in renting their home to the troubled star and his peoples. At the time, Jackson was embroiled in legal woes and needed a hideout.

Del and Robin Walters say Jackson saw their home featured on the cover of Washingtonian Magazine while Jackson was shopping at a Safeway market. The Walter’s then received a call asking if Jackson could stay at their home, they agreed. Del Walters said, “I thought it was the right thing to do. Everyone was looking for him he just needed a place to stay. Shelter from the storm.”

It is unknown how much Jackson paid to rent the home for the 9-day stay.

Jackson had full run of the house along with his three children, nannies, chefs and bodyguards. The homeowner and his family left the premises and stayed at a hotel.

The family is speaking out on what Michael Jackson did while he stayed at their home which includes taping the windows shut from prying eyes and when asked of any suspected drug use, Robin Walters said, “There was something making him sleep, don’t know if it were drugs but something to get him off the world for a moment.”

I find it curious the family has any idea what Jackson did to go to sleep, due to the simple fact they were not present in the home. Maybe it’s not all that strange they are commenting on what Michael did while he stayed at the home, it seems everyone else and their mother wants a piece of Michael now that he is gone.

Shock: Pepsi Producer Pocketed Michael Jackson Burnt Hair

After producer, Ralph Cohen, put out Michael Jackson’s burning head with his jacket during the filming of a 1984 Pepsi commercial, he had the presence of mind to pick up Jackson’s smoldering hair and put it in his pocket.

Now, in what must qualify as the oddest story I have reported on in a long time, Jackson’s burnt hair has made its way to hair collector, John Reznikoff, who has teamed up with LifeGem, a company who makes diamonds from the DNA of human hair, whew.

Just when I thought most of the weirdoes had come out of woodwork to stake a claim to Jackson’s fame, this happens, indisputably the sickest of them all. How an incident, that arguably changed the life of one of the most talented men in entertainment history, (and in no way for the better) is now being used as a way to make a profit, is inconceivable.

The diamonds made from hair are in fact a reality. Chicago-based LifeGem creates certified, laboratory diamonds using human DNA and has done so already using composer, Beethoven’s hair. Reznikoff has collected hair from Lincoln, Kennedy, Einstein and Marilyn Monroe and now Michael Jackson.

James Cameron FINALLY Shows off Avatar

James Cameron

James Cameron

After years and years of waiting, James Cameron finally showed people a clip of his hotly anticipated film AvatarAvatarfollows the story of a crippled human (Sam Worthington) who is transported to an alien world and gets involved in a epic war.  If anyone can pull it off it’s Cameron, whose last film was a little flick titled Titanic.

Cameron previewed more than 20 minutes of the film at a Comic Con panel yesterday.  The hall was already at full capacity since it followed the New Moonpanel but the audience was nonetheless engaged and, from the sound of many reports, blown away.  The film relies heavily on cutting-edge special effects and promises to set the bar on digital and 3D motion pictures.  In fact, the technology needed for the movie has been 15 years in the making.  Yikes.

Cameron also promised that IMAX theaters across the country will show footage of the new film on August 21, which he dubbed “Avatar Day”.
