I admit it, I was that guy, and by that guy I mean, that guy you heard about waiting for endless hours in a long line to get his hands on the very first model iPhone. Since then, I must say, I’ve had good times and bad times with my iPhone. So much so, I upgraded to a 3G iPhone.
Now Apple rolls out yet another iPhone, 3GS, which is suppose to be faster as well as having much-requested Video Capabilities. But wait, hold the phone, what am I doing writing this story? Why am I not out waiting in some long line to get this latest version iPhone? Trust me I have my reasons¦
First off, there is no rush, reports from Apple retailers around the country are reporting, mush less hoopla (code for low sales) for the debut of iPhone 3GS, no wild lines wrapped twice around the block, no one crashed out overnight in sleeping bags to be first in line, matter of fact, not really much of a line at all.
Some of the reasons folks did not bother to wait in line this time around may be because AT&T offered this iPhone on a presale basis, so you could order from the comfort of your own sleeping bag at home. The other reason is price, and if you don’t qualify, the price will hit you hard in the digits.
I’ve had my current iPhone less than six months, which means, I, the poster boy for iPhone enthusiasts does not qualify for the $199.99 price tag, no, I would have to pay almost $600.00 if I want to get my loyal hands on one of these puppies. Ouch.
If you’re a first time buyer of the iPhone, you’re golden, you can even grab the older 3G for a measly $99, in-exchange for a two year contract from AT&T, and your first born male child, well maybe not your first born, but let’s face it, if you have to pay full whack or are tied up in a two year contract, who can afford kids?
So what does the future hold for me? Me, the quintessential “I’ve got to have the latest Apple product” kind of guy? Most likely it means shucking and jiving until I get Uncle Bob to take my old iPhone off my hands, and then taking that money, adding in even more money (I really should not be spending) and wala! I’ll be back to playing Zynga and fake x-raying my own hand in no time flat.

As another iPhone fanatic, I’ll be holding out on this one too. Not enough changes for me to throw down the cash. Besides, the new OS is the meat of the new phone and I just got that (and it is good)
Love the story! Priceless! Bam!
