adam lambert kris allen Kris Allen VS Adam Lambert American Idol Finals David VS Goliath?

American Idol heats up, and Kris Allen’s stock goes up in the final days before the most anticipated American Idol final results telecast in years.

All the hoopla has been decidedly over the very talented Adam Lambert, but will Lambert take the trophy or will Kris Allen come from behind to steal it away? It was long thought that Lambert was a lock to take it all on FOX’s American Idol, the popular singing competition, but now some are second guessing Lambert’s chances. Kris Allen, the squeaky clean kid from Conway, Arkansas, may be married, but that is not stopping teen girls from voting for Allen in droves. Posing a serious threat to Lambert’s destiny of American Idol season 8.

When you do the math, you have to be a bit creative, after-all, most polls have Lambert ahead by 80% or more, so when you try and prognosticate the winner you had to dig a little deeper for the data to justify a win for Allen. But looking ahead at the finals, there has been a dramatic shift in Allen’s direction.

Today the LA Times boldly predicted Allen the winner with the story title “Kris Allen to win ‘American Idol,’ but Adam Lambert has best career?” Tom O’neal, author of the LA Times Gold Derby section goes on to say,

“Romantically speaking, Allen is more of a heartthrob type. He may have a much bigger, secret fan base among the gum-snapping girls who set off tsunamis of text and phone votes that decide winners each week. Furthermore, Lambert likes to jump off cliffs, creatively speaking. What if he goes splat during the final face-off?”

I’ve always known that Lambert’s biggest hurdle would be getting votes from everyday Americans who rule the voting demographics for American Idol. These folks tend to be more conservative in their tastes. The flamboyant Lambert, superior talent or not, may be handicapped by his risk taker approach to his performances. It won’t help Lambert that several pictures were leaked on the internet, showing a younger Lambert lip-locked with another man.

Of course, we will all need to wait it out to see if any of these theories actually holds water. Either way, no matter who wins, I am confident both these lads will enjoy prosperous singing careers.

    Reader Comments

Ha! I find it amusing you’re using the LA Times article where the writer so clearly has absolutely no clue. His hypothesis is that Kris is macho (the first sign of his utter cluelessness) and that middle America won’t vote for Adam. Hate to burst his or your bubble, but women of all demographics and locations, and I talk to loads of gals in the heartland daily, think Adam is the hottest thing on two legs…and no, we don’t care one wit that he’s gay. (Just read all the comments to that story. I’m hardly alone in this judgement.)

Am I saying safe, vanilla Kris has no chance? No. But either way Adam’s extraordinary talent has already eclipsed the show. I never watched or voted on AI before, but you can bet I’ll be voting on Tuesday night, for the most exciting talent to come along in ages.

HEy Nina, you said nothing about about the brilliant picture I made!! That hurts! :) > Anyways, we LOVE, LOVE Adam here at thecount.com, however, we are also becoming fond of Kris too! I wasn’t saying I thought Adam would lose or that I hope he loses, I was just saying American could pull a wobbler! It’s happened before!

Hey COUNT ~ Apologies…OK, OK the picture is good, and you do get points for using one of my absolute favorite pics of Adam, but my preferred analogy would be Elvis vs Ricky Nelson. Just sayin’.

What can I say?…It gets my hackles up that guys, of the straight variety, think the average women will run shrieking from pics of men with dueling tongues. Quite to the contrary, it just makes Adam even more sexually appealing, as if he needed anything else to boost that quotient.

If there is a dramatic shift on Tuesday, I doubt very much it will be that Adam screwed up or that Kris suddenly became phenomenally less vanilla…It’ll be down to where the Gokey votes fall. Unfortunately, if Adam loses it will be because fear mongers won out. All that being said, I’m going in expecting a wobbler and will be absolutely elated if that prediction doesn’t come true.

Who cares if Adam is gay, straight or from another planet? He can SING! He is the best thing to happen to American Idol since it began.

Uh, Nina Adam’s vast “extraordinary talent” comes from his years as a professional. The show threw in Adam Lambert in with a people who don’t have the same professional experience as Adam.

    Dear Marthawashington,
While Adam Lambert does have experience in the theater which gives him some advantage, some of these “milktoast” contestants could practice for a century and never come close to him in singing ability and performance. Don’t overlook the talent. He is quite remarkable, aside from all experience.

Uh, Marthawashington ~ So basically you are faulting the guy for working hard at his craft and actually finding jobs in the most competitive of all industries to support himself.

Idol is supposedly about finding the next big UNDISCOVERED talent, not the next big talent that’s barely worked in the business before. That’s a different show altogether…America’s Got Talent.

Perhaps you should look at it this way…Yes, there are people on the show without as much experience, and look how far they’ve come. Be happy. Even IF Kris loses, his life is transformed. Luck of the draw. All the other folks just happened to try out in a year when this guy with a megawatt voice, a unique persona and charisma off the charts tried out too. That’s showbiz honey.

Amen! Don’t you dare try to guess the demographic that Adam appeals to. I’m a middle-aged Christian mom with a teenage daughter, and it’s a real toss-up as to which of us screams louder when Adam comes onto the stage! He is incredibly talented and sexy beyond belief. His sexuality doesn’t seem to matter a bit. He’s got it goin’ ON!!!!!! VOTE, VOTE, VOTE, VOTE FOR ADAM LAMBERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

60 W-F-M New York — LOVE Lambert! He is an outrageous talent! BUT! Do not assume he has this won. He really does need votes! Please–give him your time and vote until you can vote no more!

I am a 73 year old lady and remember Elvis making such a country wide screaming of all the girls and women of the 50’s….Adam has the same charm, chrisma, handsome, takes risks with his songs butknows that he can do them the way they should be done….This is so funny cause there is no one on AI that has stole the show like Adam…He is the only reason I watched this year and to think Kris could be bettr is a laugh….We got 6 tickets to go and see the AI tour which we have never done and it is because of Adam…..Vote, Vote, Vote for Adam….

And God created Adam! He’s a gift, to humanity and music, and has put Idol back in viewers’ hearts. You really can’t compare Adam and Kris – they are two different singers with different backgrounds and goals in what they want to accomplish in their entertaining. The fact is, Adam is a true artist; Kris is a singer. Adam is the whole package. And Idol is all about picking a singer with star quality – ADAM IS IT! VOTE FOR ADAM tomorrow night.

YOU GUYS ARE FRICKIN NUTS! I GUESS ADAM IS “OKAY”. I THINK HE SCREAMS AND SHOUTS EVERY WORD A SONG WILL ALLOW AND IN MY OPINION IT GETS REAL OLD AND ANNOYING FAST. I WAS A DANNY FAN FROM THE BEGINNING :( AND NOW ALL MY VOTES WILL BE WITH KRIS.

Im quite fed up with this. Kris is good but Adam wipes him out. All you Kris fans care about is his looks mostly and then you praise him with a fake complement. Plus you judge Lambert by his sexual orientation. Even if he is gay, so what? He is still an extremely talented singer. I’m stilled awed from the defeat of Gokey. He was such a precious singer. My vote is with Adam Lambert and thats final.

Hi! I’m a devout Christian and a working mother of two boys. Each time I watch the Finale replayed, I could only ask: What is wrong with this American Idol TV Show? We TV viewers recognize American Idol as a singing talent contest that is open to all, regardless of orientation or religion. It is not a popularity contest among class of personalities. Of all the show’s contestants, Adam Lambert consistently proved to be the amazingly innovative artist and the best singer, gifted with a powerful voice. ADAM LAMBERT DESERVED TO WIN. Even Kris knows this within his Christian heart, so much so that when he was unexpectedly handed the undeserved title, he evidently became perplexed and then asserted in open public that “Adam deserves this…” instinctively repudiating the unbelievable subsuming vote results and in righteous adherence to glaring truth. You could atually count so many seconds before the puzzled Kris finally acquiesced to receive the undeserved crown, but only after Adam graciously approached to place his arm around Kris’ shoulder in encouragement. Adam Lambert is the true winner! America’s vote for Kris Allen, or America’s vote against Adam Lambert, seems to be a contemptuous hate vote against various sectors of society that Adam Lambert appears to stand for. American Idol is a singing contest, not a political battle; so, should I also ask: What is wrong with America?

I was speechless when Adam Lambert was not declared the winnner of idol, he did however, impress me with the way he gratiously congratulated Chris on winning. Adam Lambert will always be my idol! I have watched every season of Idol and have never been as impressed with anyone as I was with the talented Adam Lambert. I actually watched mainly to see what new innovative spin he would put on his performance every Tuesday night. He never ceased to impress me and my 8 year old daughter. We have downloaded every song he sang on American Idol from Itunes. Adam is our idol and we can’t wait to see what he will do next. Good Luck Adam!

Hey Count…Is that a trick question? They’re in rainy Milwaukee today. The tour has only confirmed my original thoughts (I’m on top) pun intended…Adam is an absolute megastar, but Kris as actually grown on me. The dynamic duo of Kradam is really quite extraordinary. =)
